Artfields 2019

I worked with "mean material" fiberglass to mold shells of life jackets.
I used a historic stitch and glue method to shade a simple boat our of thin plywood. I love things that hang. Because hanging adds lightness and ethereal-ness to my work. The piece points to migration across 6 miles of water to what Syrians feel is a "have to" life changing step.
I point to the other casualties of war...from walking to crossing waters. Human rights advocates would tell you...more than half of Syria is afloat...perhaps not on water but pushed from their homes that were, until recently, thriving communities, rich in culture.
